Residents connected to the Kawerau District Council water supply are still being advised to boil tap water intended for consumption.

A spokesperson for Kawerau District Council said testing today has come back clear but the boil water notice is still in place as a precaution.

“Council will continue testing for the next three days and after three consecutive days with negative readings in conjunction with the Bay of Plenty District Health Board who would then give okay to lift the precaution.”

Heating water to a full rolling boil for one minute will make it safe to consume.

No boiling or treatment is required for other usages such as washing clothes or taking a bath or shower
