Dry and hot weather conditions have prompted a request for Kawerau residents to conserve water.

The current weather conditions have resulted in very high water usage causing reserves to drop to a point where conservation is required.

A statement on the Kawerau District Council’s website said water reserves dropped to 53% on Monday night.

The Council is requesting all Kawerau residents limit water usage, particularly for lawn and garden sprinkling.

February is renowned for being a hot and dry month so water conservation is requested until further notice.

An extreme fire danger level is now in place across the wider Bay of Plenty including Kawerau.

High water usage is also affecting the water pressure and many residents are experiencing dirty water as a result.
Please phone the Council on 07 306 9009 if your water is discoloured.
