Te Pahipoto Stalwart Dies

Respected kaumatua, artist, and teacher, Katerina Waiari has died, she was 88.

Katerina Waiari, known to many as Nanny Bubba, was recognized nationally as an expert in traditional Ngati Awa waiata, weaving, a founding member and kaiako of Kokohinau Kohanga Reo, and a respected kaumatua and stalwart of Te Pahipoto hapu.

In 2003 she received a Queen’s Service Order for services to her community.

Her funeral will be held on Thursday at 11 am at Kokohinau Marae in Te Teko.
