Whitepine Bush Road in Awakeri remains closed following a fatal crash tonight.
One person has died following the serious two-vehicle crash earlier on White Pine Bush Road SH2, near Whakatane.
A police spokesperson said that Police were called about 6.20pm.
The road remains closed and the Serious Crash Unit is examining the scene.
Enquiries into the circumstances of the crash will continue.
