A further 1000 metres of the coastal section of Ngā Tapuwae o Toi Walkway is set to be upgraded.

Work will be undertaken on the track between Ōtarawairere Bay and the Kōhī Point outlook, beginning around November 3, and should be completed prior to the Toi’s Challenge event on November 20.

Improvements will be made to drainage, track benching and box steps and the track will remain open, under caution, during the upgrade. Short-term local closures are likely to be required for helicopter operations however, and the Whakatāne District Council is asking for the public’s cooperation to avoid any potential safety issues.
