Olympian Lisa Carrington was honoured in style in Whakatāne today with a parade through the CBD and civic ceremony at the Whakatāne District Council.

Hundreds of people lined the town’s Strand to wish the gold medallist well and the Whakatāne High School Kapan Haka Group performed prior to speeches by Mayor Tony Bonne and Ms Carrington.

Ms Carrington was  presented with a carved taonga on behalf of the District, that symbolizes ‘Safe travels over water’.
