A deep low and associated fronts are moving south over the upper North Island today. This system is forecast to bring further rain and strong east to northeast winds to much of northern New Zealand.

The heaviest rain is likely in the Coromandel Peninsula, Eastern Bay of Plenty ranges and Gisborne, and a Heavy Rain Warning (Orange) remains in force. A Heavy Rain Watch is in force for Auckland, western Bay of Plenty and Rotorua.

In addition, easterly gales are likely to affect parts of Waikato, Bay of Plenty, Rotorua and Gisborne.

Strong winds have the potential to damage trees and power lines, lift roofs and make driving hazardous, especially for high sided vehicles. Please note, that these areas have not experienced strong winds from this direction for an extended period of time and people are advised to make sure that items and structures are secure.

People are advised to keep up to date with the latest forecasts.
