After yesterday’s mail delivery, 4500 voting returns had been received from voters in the Whakatane District.
That represents just over 19% of the District’s 23,223 eligible voters. That compares with a 15.7% voter turn-out at the same stage in the 2013 triennial election.
Votes received by ward, to date are: Murupara – 150 (9% of eligible voters); Rangitāiki – 1325 (20% of eligible voters); Tāneatua – 350 (17.5% of eligible voters); Whakatāne-Ōhope – 2675 (20.5% of eligible voters).
Voting in the Local Government elections closes at midday on Saturday, 8 October, which means postal votes should be put in the mail by Wednesday 5 October at the latest.
Voting papers can also be lodged at the Whakatāne District Council Civic Centre in Whakatane at any time before midday on Saturday, 8 October; or at the Council Service Centre in Murupara before 4.30pm on Friday, 7 October.
