With ‘Dancing with the Stars’ about to hit TV screens around NZ, the Eastern Bay is also set to get a taste of the action. Life Education Trust Eastern Bay will present Dancing with the Stars in Whakatane on Saturday 20th October, to replace the Fight for Life.
While the event is loosely based on the television series, there will be subtle differences. All participants in the Life Education Trust fundraiser will have no dance experience and will be tutored by local dance teachers.
Organisers aren’t revealing which dancers will be taking part however event manager Jo Finlay from Proevents, says the dancers all have a great profile and personality to match. “The event is more about the entertainment factor, not so much on the technical side. Couples will be matched based on ability by our dance teachers.”
While many of the dancers have now been shoulder tapped, there will still be an opportunity for any persons interested to potentially take part. A public audition will be held in June where the final two competitors will be chosen.
All proceeds from the event will benefit Life Education Trust, a charity that educates and empowers children to make healthy choices so they can live full and healthy lives. Today children and adolescents face a lot of challenges, including: obesity, substance use, mental health and well-being and bullying. Every year Life Education Trust teaches over 250,000 children about their body, friendships, their identity, food and nutrition and helpful and harmful substances.
