One person has died following a serious crash on Wainui Road, Wainui near Whakatane. Police were alerted to a vehicle that had rolled at around 5:15am this morning. One person was deceased at the scene. Police are investigation the cause of the crash.

Awakeri Fatal Crash: name released
Police can now name the man who died following the crash on SH30, Awakeri, yesterday. He was Daniel James, 25, of Ohope. Police extend their sympathies to his family and friends. Two others were seriously injured in the two-vehicle crash. Enquiries into the circumstances of the crash are ongoing.
